Video - Corcoran Graduation Webcast

Tomorrow I will be shooting the commencement ceremonies for The Corcoran college of Art + Design.  For this years graduation I will be producing video along with still photographs. I'll be setting up my video camera at the rear of the DAR Constitution Hall and running audio off their sound board.

Since the camera will already be set up, and plugged in to their audio system, I had the (possibly over-ambitious) idea to stream the video feed to the internet in real time.  The setup is fairly simple. during the ceremony, my video camera will recording to mini-dv tape, as well as transfering the video signal to my laptop via firewire.  I'm running a second audio cable from the sound board to my laptop and streaming the feed via ustream.tv.

Assuming everything goes as planned, check back Saturday May 22nd starting at about 4:00pm to see the live stream below.

Video - Corcoran Ball Time lapse

My time lapse video of the Corcoran Ball went off without any major problems.  My video camera recorded a half second of tape every 30 seconds for sixty hours.  The final video shows the first load at 5:00am on thursday morning, through the last clean up in the early morning hours on Saturday.

Video - Time Lapse of the Corcoran Ball (Setup)

This coming Friday night is the Annual Corcoran Ball. The gallery (and parts of the college) shut down for Thursday and Friday to set up for the event.

Yesterday evening I set up a video camera to  shoot a time lapse of the setup and ball.  The camera will shoot half a second of footage every thirty seconds, for 60 Hours.  The tape should be able to get the full two days of set up as well as the the ball itself.

Below is an image of the setup, the video should stop at about 6:00am on Saturday morning, a few hours after the decorations for the ball are taken down.

If all goes well, I'll be posting the completed time lapse next week.

Personal Work - D'Orazio Luthiery Video

Recently I've been getting my feet wet learning video.  Most of the footage I've been shooting never ends up anywhere, it just helps me learn about the craft and process of shooting video.  While I was in college, I worked a little bit collecting audio and editing video in Final Cut Pro, but until recently hadn't done much with what I learned.

For the past few years, a close friend of mine, Mike D'Orazio has been running a custom guitar shop building and repairing guitars and basses.  I've photographed some of his custom guitars in the past, and been really impressed with what he's produced.

Below is a video of Mike carving the neck of a bass guitar he's currently working on.  This version is still rough around the edges, but I wanted to get it out there to show the progess I'll be making on it over the next few months.

Time-Lapse of the DC snow

I set up a time-lapse video during the snow storm this past Saturday. I set my video to record one second for every minute that passed.  I started recording a few minutes after 6:00am on Saturday morning, and stopped just about 7:00pm.
